Executive Council

The Ministry of Executive Council coordinates the executive arm of government - the Cabinet (also known as the Executive Council) and its committees. The Ministry provides leadership to the Alberta Public Service, ensures effective strategic planning and coordinated policy development across government, while also communicating with Albertans. Intergovernmental Relations supports the Premier and other ministries in advancing Alberta's intergovernmental priorities.

Executive Council includes the Office of the Premier; Deputy Minister and Associate Deputy Minister of Executive Council Office; Deputy Clerk to Executive Council and Deputy Secretary to Cabinet; the Cabinet Coordination Office; Corporate Services; the Policy Coordination Office (PCO); Intergovernmental Relations; the Public Affairs Bureau (PAB); and the Protocol Office. It also supports the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, and the Lieutenant Governor as the Queen's representative in Alberta.

Health

Alberta Health is the ministry that sets policy, legislation and standards for the health system in Alberta. The ministry allocates health funding and administers provincial programs such as the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan and provides expertise on communicable disease control.

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health provides direction and guidelines on public health policy to Alberta Health Services, and gives information to the public about communicable diseases and public health programs

Labour

Labour assumes the primary responsibility for labour force and workplace policy development,workplace-based training (Canada Job Grant), negotiations with the federal government on funding agreements for training, and the coordinating mechanism that will help define government-wide learning and training priorities. In addition, Labour retains primary responsibility for safe, fair and healthy workplaces, labour attraction,immigration programs, and labour qualifications and mobility.

Legislative Assembly of Alberta

Consists of 83 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) elected to represent constituencies from across Alberta who are responsible for making the laws that govern Alberta.

Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans, and administers a safety system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
